The motive for the call was still more surprising. The Oscar-winning actress had called Pelling because she was interested in making a film based on the journalist's unfinished account of her rumbustious reign at the journal. The star is now set to recreate the heyday of The Erotic Review, which grew from a newsletter to become the titillating publication of choice for naughty old colonels and Soho intelligentsia. Pelling is still writing the memoir on which the film will be based. The opportunity to be played by one of the world's most glamorous actresses arose when Weisz's agent sent her the proposal for the book. The story of the nice English girl who became editor of an erotic magazine appealed to Weisz, who told Vogue she was drawn to its "sexy, comic potential".

The Erotic Review uncensored
Rowan Pelling, the vivacious editor of The Amorist, a grown up version of The Erotic Review, is just about to publish a second issue. No sign of invisibility here. The Erotic Review was something I fell into, aged 28, after volunteering to help my art dealer friend Jamie Maclean during the Christmas rush for his new company, The Erotic Print Society.
Rowan Pelling , former editor of the Erotic Review , has a bone r to pick with today's women's erotica — she says it glorifies casual sex. Writing in the Daily Mail , Pelling includes the obligatory dig at "ladette" culture "anybody who sees drunken young women on the pull in city centres knows that, for that generation, feminine mystique is already well nigh extinct" and the obligatory why-should-ladies-want-to-act-like-men rhetoric "While I would fight tooth and claw for women's right to sexual freedom, I'm not sure the sisterhood has gained much if it sees that freedom as a chance to brag about sex and conquests in the same kind of tedious and lewd manner that made the new lad so obnoxious back in the Nineties. In the end I question whether extreme promiscuity suits more than a very small handful of women.
